It began just before 2 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 23, when Stafford County deputies were called to the 1000 block of Garrisonville Road, after receiving a call regarding a screaming 26-year-old woman who could be heard by dispatchers shouting that she loves him.
According to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, the two were separated, and the woman - later identified as Fredericksburg resident Tyra Powell - alleged that the man had a gun, a claim that was quickly debunked.
"Out of an abundance of caution, deputies made contact with the male and discovered he did not have any weapons," a spokesperson from the agency said. "Instead, the female would begin to assault one of the deputies."
Deputies continued attempting to detain Powell, who resisted until she was eventually detained.
Once Powell was in custody, deputies learned the full story.
The man told deputies that Powell had forced her way into his home after knocking on his door and assaulting him. He said he did not know Powell, who "displayed multiple signs of intoxication."
Powell was charged with:
- Assault and battery;
- Assault and battery on law enforcement;
- Public intoxication;
- Obstruction of justice.
She was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail pending a bond hearing.
